Presentation titled: "Intellectual property for innovation, business intelligence and technology transfer"

Business intelligence is a set of tools allowing to transform large amounts of data into useful information to facilitate the decision-making process in companies. With thousands of new patents filed every day, we understand that it becomes quickly difficult to identify useful innovations.
 
The event aims at presenting approaches and tools allowing to facilitate the identification of patents, opportunities of marketing or relevant information for the effective management of a patent portfolio.

The evening will include two presentations:

(1) Presentation given by Gilles Derome, Director, Mentorat BioSuccess, titled: "The importance of mentorship"

The first years as entrepreneurs are usually the most intensive and demanding. Enterprise leaders are often divided between establishing the company’s vision and managing daily activities in research, finance, marketing, sales etc. The speed of decision and execution is constantly increasing putting more pressure on the individuals. Many of them feel isolated and the need to be assisted, to reflect on their decisions and become better as company’s leaders. 

Mentorat BioSuccess network’s mission is to improve the success of Life Sciences & Health Technologies’ entrepreneurs by offering them the support of quality mentors intent on sharing their successful entrepreneurial or corporate leadership in the sector.

As Director of the network, Gilles will speak to you about the importance of mentorship and the development of the Mentorat bioSuccess network which has completed its first year of activities in the sector of Life Sciences and Health Technologies.

Graduated in pharmacology and an MBA, Gilles possess more than 25 years experience in pharmaceuticals and biotechnological business; sales, marketing, new products development and management of business units. Gilles is also part of Pangaea Consultant Group- a specialised consulting group in the pharmaceutical sector.

(2) Presentation given by Jacques Grysole, MBA, president of Expansion Strategies inc., and Gerald Andre, Eng. Ph.D., managing consultant, Vie-Tech consultants Inc., titled: "The Quebec Biotech Industry: Outlook for New Entrepreneurs"

Jacques and Gerald both have been both involved in the Life Sciences sector in Quebec since 1982. Jacques was consultant for research centers, start-ups, pharmaceutical companies and medical devices companies. He contributed to the creation of dedicated tech parks, business incubators and associations. Consequently, he served as an observer of that industry in Quebec. Gerald has over 20 years experience in biotech, first in R&D and later in Life science Industry were he worked on technology transfer, company financing and business development.

Taking into account the present status of the biotech industry in Quebec, they will deliver a personal analysis on the perspectives for the creation and the development of new biotech ventures. Inspired by the initiatives underway in other clusters, they will propose ideas on the creation of new start-ups and how to create value in light of market needs.
